Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) has signed an agreement with Israel Shipyards Ltd. (ISL) for the design of an advanced combat vessel for the Israel Navy (IN). Harel said the navy's main concerns are Chinese-made C-802 missiles, like the one that hit the Israeli ship in 2006, and Russian-made "Yakhont" anti-ship missiles possessed by Hezbollah's ally Syria. Based on the German MEKO 100 patrol corvette, the Saar-6-class is designed to offer enhanced attack capabilities compared to its predecessor Sa’ar 5 class.
